지구과학, 한 권으로 잡자!

지구과학이란 학문은 매우 재미있는 학문인 것 같다. 지구 내부 뿐만 아니라, 지구 바깥 환경까지 같이 탐구할 수 있는 학문이기에, 그 사실을 확인할 수 있는 방법이 없으므로 그만큼 호기심이 더욱 커지고 궁금해진다. 미지의 세계인 지구 내부나 지구 바깥의 저 먼 우주의 세계와 같이, 우리가 알지 못하는 세계를 탐구하는 학문, 지구과학이 언젠가 빛을 발할 것이다. 

지질학에서의 꽃은 지진파와 암석이라고 할 수 있겠다. 먼저, 암석이나 화산 활동의 분석 등을 통해서 지구 내부 구조를 추리해 보거나 지진 활동을 예측하는 일은 매우 중요한 일이다. 현재 백두산이 휴화산이 아닐지도 모른다는 설이 제기되고 있는데, 그 이유는 백두산이 다른 화산보다 빠른 속도로 성장하고 있기 때문이다. 이 속도라면, 마그마가 산을 뚫고 나와 화산 폭발을 이룰 가능성도 크다. 내가 알고 있는 상식에 의하면, 백두산은 폭발형 화산이 아니므로 직접적인 피해는 가하지 않겠지만, 백두산에 쌓여있는 20억 톤 가량의 천지가 쏟아져내리면, 이북 지역을 완전히 물에 가라앉혀 버릴수도 있다고 한다. 화산 폭발이란 한 번 일어나면 매우 무서운 재앙인 듯 싶다. 

지진파는 어떠할까? 지진파는 지구 내부 구조를 알기 위해서는 매우 중요한 것이다. 지구 내부를 뚫고 들어가는 방법이 없기 때문에, 지진파의 속도 변화를 관측함으로써 지구 내부의 층상 구조를 밝혀낼 수 있었다. 지진파 연구가 좀 더 이루어져서, 외핵은 왜 액체이고, 내핵은 왜 고체인지, 그러한 이유까지도 파악할 수 있는 연구가 이루어지길 바란다. 

구름은 수증기가 상층의 높은 곳에서 응결하면서 발생한다. 이 수증기가 응결시, 복잡한 과정을 거쳐서 일종의 얼음 알갱이가 되는 것이다. 비가 내리는 것에는 두 가지 방법이 있는데, 하나는 처음부터 작은 비가 내리면서, 비의 속도 차이로 인해 빗방울이 서로 합쳐지면서 점점 커지며 내리는 것이고, 다른 하나는 얼음이 내리면서 녹아 내리는 것이라고 한다. 기상학도 좋은 관심 분야가 될 수 있을 것 같다. 

지구과학은, 다양한 학문이 존재하기 때문에 어떤 학문을 하더라도 재미있을 것 같다. 거대한 규모의 움직임이 있지만, 이 움직임은 매우 천천히 일어나므로 잡아내기가 쉽지 않은 듯 하다. 하지만, 개녑잡는 완소 교과서 덕분에 지학과 더 가까워졌다.

끔찍한 과학, 제 2편. 1편에서는 다양한 종류의 동물에 대한 탐구를 했었고, 이번에는 우리 인체에 대한 다양한 탐구를 할 차례이다. 그림체가 약간 보기엔 좋지 않았지만, 인체에 대해서는 재미있게 설명해주는 것 같다. 

This book is sometimes really horrible. There is a monster just look like the man that Frankenstein made. Well, I think the doctors had to be terrible because they had to know more about their body part. So, this book was quite hard to read with draws. 

There are many body parts that protect us or keep us working. The skin protect us, and can feel many things from outside. There are billions of dead cells that we give out. If we didn't have skin, than if there was anything and we touch that, our body will tear. 

There are many visceras that works our body. And the heart can be the most important thing. It moves really powerfully, so it can press the oxygen to all of our body. There is a special result that the heart can move itself when it is out of someone's body. This is called heart's automatic movement. This is because of the east tuber. 

The lungs? It is the organ that exchange oxygen and CO2. There is a story about a woman who hiccuped just for two years. She became thin and had to stop working. She tried every method to stop this, but when two years later, it stopped. She couldn't breathe well because there was a snapped nerve. 

The body stories were really funny, but I hope the horrible draws can be changed.

Viking stories

바이킹에 대한 소문은 무척 무성하다. 음식을 좋아하는 사람이라면 바이킹에 얽힌 뷔페의 유래도 알 것이고, 날렵한 배를 가진 그들의 노략질이 유럽 역사에 얼마나 큰 영향을 끼쳤는지도 알것이다. 스칸디나비아의 추운 지역에서 온 이 강인한 전사들의 이야기, 바이킹이 전개된다. 

Vikings were great. You would think of pirates wearing horned helmets and using big axe. Yes, they are all true, but you should know that they were not only dangerous pirates or brave fighters. They were good crafts and sailors, too. 

The vikings explored a lot of places. They were already went to the Canada, and there are even stories that they found America faster than Christopher Columbus. This is why we can call them brave explorers. Where the good weapons that they use come from? It comes from the crafts who can make weapons well. So, we can understand that they had great technology. 

However, the laws or stories prove they were quite cruel. When they had problems, than they would give their life. When they killed women, than they just had to give a fine to government. In fact, I didn't know that there were government that bave laws and solve problems. Many people think they were outlaws. 

The vicious vikings were called stupid, brave, cruel... yes, they have a lot of stories. Maybe the bloody Scandanivians had to to that because of their weather, I think.

Horrible science, the real scene of animals

끔찍한 역사 시리즈에 이어서 이번에는 끔찍한 과학 시리즈. 그 첫번째로, 다양한 동물들에 관한 과학 이야기를 읽게 되었다. 사람을 공격하는 온갖 포식자부터, 다양하게 존재하는 동물들에 관하여 언제나처럼 재미있게 서술한다. 

This series introduce you a lot of animals, and most of them are the animals which are interested by many children. The animals which are really dangerous. The crocodiles, the lions, big bears, elephants, sharks... the animals that have weapons can kill you. 

Actually, if you grow up, you would realize that the animals are not so dangerous. If you go to the jungle, than you can rarely see leopard,(Not snakes. You can find them everywhere, and if you meet cobra, than this fast snake can catch you and eat you up.) and cannot see tiger or lion. They are protected by people, so they cannot catch you and you cannot catch them. Sharks? If you saw the movie, Jaws, than you are believe in wrong story. The white sharks are not really dangerous. They rarely attack people. But when you meet small sharks, they can attack you fast. 

So, you shold know that big animals are not so dangerous except bears. Elephants don't kill people until they attack them or make them angry. Big sharks don't attack you. Well, polar bears and crocodiles can be quite dangerous when you go to South pole or across a river, can't it? 

The horrible science introduced about many information about dangerous and cruel animals. Don't believe they would always try to kill you. They have smaller brains, so you can train them easily by some tools. I hope you don't try to train them really, actually.

12월 보고 싶은 책

유아/어린이/청소년 분야 주목할만한 신간 도서를 보내주세요

12월에 제일 먼저 이 책의 광고를 본 순간. 아 읽고 싶다였다. 

마당을 나온 암탉을 읽고난 뒤 그 가슴 두근거림과 설렘이 생각나서였다.   

아이 역시 흥분을 감출 수 없었던 그 마지막 장을 넘긴 모습.  그리고 이제 다른 여러 아이들도 그 책을 읽고 그들의 이야기를 떠들고 또 떠들던 모습이 이 책 표지에 어른거리던데...  

그 작가분의 책이다. 또 심장이 뛴다.   

70년대 중반이라면 이제 예닐곱살이었던 그 시기. 떠오른다.  선명한 것도 아련한 것도... 

이 책 꼭 꼭~~ 보고 싶은 책 1위다.   

 

  이 책 시리즈는 워낙 활용도가 높을 뿐만 아니라, 아이들도 좋아하는 책 시리즈이다. 

한국지리백과의 경우 지금도 아이들과 다양한 독후활동을 하며, 즐겁게 익힐 수 있는 책이었는데, 세계지리백과가 나왔다니 너무 반갑다.  

세계사와 함께 이 책으로 좋은 다양한 활동을 할 수 있을 듯 해서 정말 보고 싶은 책이다.
