제레미  스트롱의 시리즈가 떴다. 물론 줄거리도 제대로 파악하지 못할 그런 오락가락한 책이지만, 니콜라스의 가족들이 벌이는 엉뚱한 사건, 사고들이 독자들을 이끄는 것만 같다. 처음 만난 니콜라스 가족들은 과연 무슨 일을 벌일까? 

Well, Nicholas' father started first. He is one of the most unexpected person in the world. He said he can't raise Cheese and Tomato(Actually they are twin baby, and their real name are James and Rebecca.) anymore because he don't have any money, and he said he will sell the twin. Mother said no, then he made a plan to make a farm. His plan was to make food themselves and enjoy them of their own. 

Well, it was really funny while reading the funny family's accident. Next, Cheese, actually James could make a advertisement. Did you see the advertisement that take part in babies? I think they will make a lot of money, and Cheese did. Now I am expecting more funny stories for next series.

중간고사를 보고, 숨가쁘게 시간이 흘러가는 동안 어느새 수학동아 6월호를 보게 되었다. 그럼 그 바쁜 와중에 5월호는 어디로 간 것일까? 아무도 모르는 5월호의 정체를 뒤로하고, 결국 곧바로 6월호를 보게 되었다. 이미 만화는 중간 내용이 생략되어 물건너갔지만, 이번호 이야기는 참으로 재미있었다. 

이번에 벌써 남아공 월드컵이 다가오고 있고, 언젠가는 함성의 열기가 터져나올 것이다. 이번 월드컵에서는 과연 어떤 공이 쓰이게 될까? 2002년 월드컵까지만 해도 정오각형과 정육각형을 이용한 다면체 구조를 벗어나지 못하였는데, 2006년엔 팀가이스크, 이번에는 반발력이 크고 물에 젖지 않는 자불라니가 쓰인다고 한다. 그렇기 때문에 더욱 예측불가능하고, 컨트롤이 힘들어지니 경기는 더욱 흥미진진해진다. 

공룡도 수학으로 복원해낼수 있다고 한다. 발견한 공룡의 뼈 등 몇가지 흔적만으로도 계산을 통해 공룡 전체의 모습과 다양한 특징들을 알아낼 수 있으니, 수학은 참으로 대단하다. 

역시 세상은 수학으로 가득 차 있는 것 같다. 주변의 도구 하나 하나가 수학의 도움으로 얻어진 것들이다. 아름다운 수학의 세계를 통해서, 더욱 멋진 세계를 발견해낼 수 있도록 노력하는 그런 수학자가 되고 싶다.

흥미진진한 작은 해리포터 이야기

정말 얼떨결에 받아보게 된 원서 시리즈.  내게 아무 말도 하지 않고 구입한 책이라, 읽으라며 불쑥~~  갑작스레 들이닥친 원서의 존재에 깜짝 놀랬다.(어디든 달려가는 50% 행사?=_=::: ) 하지만, 비록 표지는 조금 유치해 보였으나, 작은 해리포터 이야기라 할 수 있을 만큼 꽤 흥미진진했다.    

[ Oliver Moon and the Dragon Disaster ]

Then, let's talk about this story. I said that this is like a little Harry Potter series, and it's true. There is a wizards and wiches' village. Oliver Moon is a student at magic school, and his dream is to be a great wizard. However, the world do not let him to do. There are too many problems for him. Bad guys always not let him away and bully him. But I like hm, because he is kind and a boy who has a good dream. 

All book has a small episode. And this story will tell you about the pet dragon, Dottie. She is a small dragon, and Oliver's little sister, Which baby took him to his room. This dragon is like a a mischievous child. She never listen to others. Oliver is going to go to the magic parade, and if he don't do something, he has to collect litter. So he had an idea to use this naughty dragon to burn the litter. Guess what? The dragon met her mother and master at there! 

Oliver couldn't have a pet, but he would miss the dragon. Well, what will be the next advantrue of Oliver Moon? 

[Oliver Moon and the Nipperbat Nightmare ]

This time, Oliver got a big budget. A talking Nipperbat to raise! He is a class pet, and it's like a treasure of children. However, Oliver had to raise it while Hallowen day. Well, is he going to stay calmly, or make some problem? 

Like the text, it was really a nightmare. The cute talking nipperbat liked to make problems, and even worse, the witch baby, Oliver's sister made it serious. Yes, the bat is really like a young naughty boy. 

He even lost him, but the Wish-in-a-box helped him to find the bat. Children hated Oliver, but when he found bat back, they really cheered. Now Nipperbat became te mascot of magic school. I hope him to do a lot of things in school.
 

[Oliver Moon's Christmas Cracker] 

올리버 문의 새로운 모험이 시작되었다. 아니, 모험이라기보다는 그냥 친척집가서 잔뜩 고생하고 온 이야기에 가깝다고 해야 할까? 매번 즐거운 크리스마스를 기대하던 올리버는 이번에 못된 사촌들이 자신을 괴롭히는 친척내로 가야만 했다. 자, 과연 올리버는 어떤 일을 겪게 될까? 

Well, let me tell you how horrible are the bad relatives. They looks really horrible. Well, what ever. It's not important. They cannot stay a moment if they don't bother Oliver. Poor Oliver. He really wanted to have a great holiday with their family, but their parents had to stay at their relative's house. 

However, the Christmas Cracker gave a lot of presents to Oliver. His bad cousin made him a bad boy and put him into trouble, but I would like hm to keep it in his recollection. 

[The defiance of Oliveer Moon] 

This time, Oliver got a great problem. His father got a new job! Isn't it a good news? No, he had a job at Oliver's school. It means that if his father makes some problem, he will also have some problem. 

Unfortunately, Oliver's father was not so good at making potion. He was a helper to make potion, but he couldn't do well on it. And also, there was big wall to climb over. Casper, the genius young wizard. 

Casper disgraced Mr.Moon, so Oliver was really angry. Then, he decided to have a magic confrontation with Casper. They were both good at magic, so they got the same score when they realized they didn't disgraced each other. Casper also thought Oliver disgraced him, and they were just tricked by the bad guy, Bully Bogeywort. Maybe they became good friends, don't they? 

[Oliver Moon's Fangtastic Sleepover] 

This time, they went to a trip to a scary sleepover at the haunted museum. He could see a lot of things there, and Bully Bogeywort always say he can do everything. He had a terrible day, and he was going to sleep. However, he met a new big problem at night. 

The vampires were there, and they said they like the delicious smell of them. Oliver and Jake, Oliver's best friend were awake and heard them. They saw the bats and they should remove them before they die. 

Unfortunately, they didn't succeed at remove them and they finally turned into vampire. Now it's really the end of Oliver? No, this story is for children and he will never get into big problem. They went there to get some pizza, and they didn't like human blood. It's a good news to hear that! 

[Oliver Moon and the Broomstick Battle] 

Maybe this time is Oliver Moon's most excited time. This is the magic Olympic that opens every 5 years. And Oliver was going to join the Broomstick Battle, that children can join in. The young boy really wanted to join it, but Bully Bogeywart, the evel boy made a trap again. Can he win the Obstacle Broomstick Battle? 

Well, unfortunately, he couldn't join the Broomstick Battle, and he had to watch other people's contest. Just before the broomstick battle started, Mr.Moon find Bully cheating, and took a motion picture on his image catcher. So instead of Bully, Oliver could get into the broomstick battle. 

He was quite good at riding broomstick, so he could won the thrid prize of all the students. Well, Kind wins Evil is maybe right. I hope him to be a great wizard.

 

낯선 이들과의 만남

내 꿈은 교환학생이 되어 국제적인 학교에서 각 나라의 수많은 학생들과 만나보는 것이다. 한 곳에 정착해 한 마을에 살면서 한 마을의 주민으로 평생을 살아가는 것보다는, 각 나라 사람들의 생활의 특징을 알아보고, 각 나라 말을 배워서 세계 여행, 글로벌 시대를 준비하는게 더 낫지 않을까? 

도미니카 산톨리나 도오네는 정말 원하지 않은 선택을 하여 교환학생이 되었다. 그녀의 가족은 특별하다. 적응이 된다 싶으면 이사를 가는 가족이었기에, 도미니카, 일명 디니는 적응을 잘하는 아이가 되어 버렸다. 그리고선 이번엔 이모의 손에 이끌려 스위스 국제학교로 가게 된다. 본래 영어를 쓰는데, 갑자기 외국에 나가서는 이탈리아어와 그 외에 세계의 학생들이 사용하는 수많은 언어들을 배워야 하는 그녀였다. 

교환 학생의 꿈은 예전부터 꿨지만, 책에서 보면 그렇게 썩 좋지만은 않은 것 같다. 적응해야 할 것이 무척 많기 때문이다. 같은 나라 학생도 맞지 않을 테고, 그나마 성격이 맞는 학생을 찾아도 대화조차 어려울테니 말이다. 하지만, 나는 적응이란 것이 얼마나 고되고 힘든 일인지를 정말 겪어보고 싶다. 같은 나라 사람들은 모두 비슷한 특징을 갖고 살아가는데, 세계 사람들과 살다보면 얼마나 자유분방한 이들을 많이 만나보고, 또 그들을 닮아가겠는가? 

디니는 물론 많은 사람들을 만나보았다. 정말로 자유분방한 사람, 모든 사람들이 자기 자신을 싫어하게 만드는 사람, 사람을 기분좋게 만드는 사람, 책임감 있는 사람, 항상 새로운 것을 생각해내는 사람... 그리고 그녀가 만난 그 모든 사람들이 어떤 영향을 끼쳤을지는 자명한 사실이다. 항상 불평 불만만을 늘어놓고, 심지어 학교 급식을 구정물이라며 탄원서까지 돌린 아이가, 막상 사고를 당하고선 부모에 의해 미국으로 돌아가게 되자 울면서 학교와 친구들을 모두 사랑한다고 말하는 장면에선 적잖이 놀랬다. 겉으론 항상 이 모든 게 싫다고, 미워한다고 말하면서 막상 마지막이 되어서야 그 본심을 털어낼 수 있는 것일까? 하여튼 신기한 사람은 많고, 나는 그 신기한 사람들의 일상을 겪어보고 싶을 따름이다. 

좋은 책이었다. 교환학생의 삶이란 어떤 것인지를 알게 해주는. 꿈은 일찍 시작할수록 좋다던데, 늦기 전에 여행의 꿈을 얼른 완성시키고 싶다.

여성 CEO 김만덕의 삶

제주의 빛 김만덕 ㅣ 푸른숲 역사 인물 이야기 1

현재 드라마로 김만덕이 방영되었다. 물론 나는 보지 못했지만, 부모님께서 무척 즐겨보시는 드라마로 기억한다.조선의 유명한 여성 CEO로, 객주를 차려서 상인들의 물건을 대신 팔아주거나 보관하는 등, 일종의 도매업자 일을 했던 김만덕. 가슴 따스한 그녀가 제주에 비춘 빛이 얼마나 밝은지를 이 책은 말해준다. 

어려서 두 부모를 전염병으로 잃고, 피 한방울 섞이지 않은 할머니의 도움으로 살아남았던 만덕은 기생 설향의 집에서 살아가게 된다. 본래 심지가 굳고 자태가 고운지라, 사람들이 즐겨 찾았는데 비록 몸은 기생이지만 기적에 올려진 자신의 이름을 지우고 싶은 마음이 굴뚝같아 끝내 기생의 신분을 벗어나게 된다. 그리고선 그간 모은 돈으로 항구에서 큰 객주를 차리게 되는데, 다른 객주와는 달리 사리사욕을 채우려는 마음이 없어, 사람들 대부분이 만덕의 객주에서 거래한다. 

비록 그녀도 이윤을 좇는 상인이었지만, 매점매석을 해서 값을 올려 받는 객주의 행태로 인해 굶주리는 사람을 보고서 분노하고, 흉년이 들었을 때에는 임금님도 구제하지 못한 백성들을 자신이 모은 돈으로 모두 곡식 500석으로 사들여와 그중 450석을 구호곡으로 보낸다. 그녀덕분에 살아남은 사람이 수천명은 될테니, 이는 참으로 다행이라 생각한다. 

따뜻한 인품을 가진 구녀는 구호곡으로 사람들을 도운 숭고한 정신에 대한 보상을 받게 된다. 제주는 본래 사람이 살기 어려운 섬인지라 제주사람들이 자꾸 뭍으로 올라와서 제주의 인구가 줄어드는 것을 막기 위해 나라는 월해금법, 제주 여자는 바다를 건널 수 없다는 법을 만들었다. 그래서 제주 땅을 벗어나지 못하는 제주 여자들중 만덕이 유일하게 합법적으로 뭍으로 올라갈 수 있었던 것이다. 

그리고선 평생에 소원이던 금수강산 구경을 하고, 다시 제주로 돌아와 사람들에게 차츰 자신의 객주를 물려주고는 이제 제주의 마스코트같은 존재가 되어 그녀는 일흔 사세의 나이로 타계한다. 그러한 사람이 현대에 있었다면, 아마 큰 돈을 버는 대기업을 하나 세우고, 대기업의 모든 자산을 가난한 이들을 위해 쓰고 나서는 또 다시 큰 돈을 벌어들이는 그런 대단한 사람이 되었을 것이다. 하지만, 그 시대에 태어났기에, 지금의 제주 사람들이 있지 않았을까, 하고 생각해본다.
