■ 저자 소개

마크 트웨인(Mark Twain)이라는 필명으로 더욱 유명한 그의 본명은 새뮤얼 랭혼 클레먼스(Samuel Langhorne Clemens,1835년 ~1910년)입니다. 1835년 미국 미주리 주 플로리다에서 태어나 4살 때 가족이 미시시피 강변으로 이사했습니다. 미시시피 강의 자연은 그의 유년기에 깊은 인상을 남겨 <<톰소여의 모험>> 등의 무대가 되었습니다. 골드러시에 편승해 금광에 투자했지만 쫄딱 망했고, 빚을 갚기 위해 신문사에 글을 쓰면서 작가로 데뷔하게 됐습니다.
