■ 작품 소개

브라만의 아들 싯다르타는 자신의 고향에서 부귀와 명예를 누리며 살고 있었다. 그는 지혜롭고 영리하여 주위의 모든 사람으로부터 존경을 받았습니다. 그러나 나비를 먹으면서 그의 가슴은 지혜와 경험을 얻고자 하는 열망으로 불타오릅니다. 싯다르타는 친구인 고빈다와 함께 집을 떠나 방랑하는 고행자 무리인 사마나들을 따라나섭니다. 싯다르타는 헤세가 직접 인도여행을 다녀온 후에 지은 책으로 헤셔는 이 책을 완성하기 위해 직접 2년 넘게 힘든 고행을 하였습니다.
