■ 작품 소개

<<금단의 저택>>은 공포소설의 대가인 러브크래프트가 1937년 발표한 작품입니다. <<금단의 저택>>은 로드아일랜드에 있는 실제 주택을 모티브로 하여 창작되었습니다.수년 동안 주인공과 그의 삼촌 위플 박사는 백여 년 동안 그 집에서 병들거나 죽어간 사람들의 기록에 놀라워했으며, 집 주위에서 나는 악취에 대해서도 의문을 갖고 있었습니다. 주인공과 위플 박사는 그 집에서 하룻밤을 지내기로 결심합니다. 잠이 든 주인공은 비명 소리에 깨어나는데, 기괴한 노란색 거품이 수많은 눈을 가지고 자신을 노려보고 있는 것을 목격합니다.

The window contained photographs of more or less undressed dancing girls; nondescript packages in wrappers like patent medicines; closed yellow paper envelopes, very flimsy, and marked two-and-six oin heavy black figures; a few numbers of ancient French comic publications hung across a string as if to dry; a dingy blue china bowl, a casket of black wood, bottles of marking ink, and rubber stamps; a few books, with titles hinting at impropriety; a few apparently old copies of obscure newspapers, badly printed, with titles like The Touch, The Gong-rousing titles. And the two gas jets inside the panes were always turned low, either for economy‘s sake or for the sake of the customers.
