■ 작품소개

「나사의 회전」은 헨리 제임스가 1898년에 발표한 고딕 유령소설입니다. 영국의 저택에서 가정교사로 일하게 된 젊은 여성은 집 주변에서 목격되는 낯선 남녀의 존재에 의구심을 가지게 되는데 이야기는 점차 기괴하고 으스스하게 전개됩니다.여성은 아이돌을 유령으로부터 보호하려고 애쓰는데 수많은 복선과 1인칭 시점의 치밀한 묘사가 끝까지 팽팽한 긴장감을 유발합니다. 그녀가 돌보던 마일즈가 그녀의 품에서 갑자기 죽어버리는 결말은더욱 충격적이고 모호합니다. 발표된 지 한 세기가 지났지만 아직도 TV나 연극, 영화로 끊임없이 각색되고 있는 고딕소설의 걸작입니다.
