[오늘의 한문장] 심판 The Trial

■ 작품 소개

<<심판>>은 프란츠 카프카가 1914년에서 1915년까지 집필하여 1925년에 출판된 장면소설입니다. 은행원 요제프 K는 서른 번째 생일에 아무런 이유 없이 체포됩니다. 그는 필사적으로 자신을 변호하지만 결국 처형되고 맙니다. 카프카는 파혼 직후에 이 소설을 집필했는데 그는 삶에서 자신이 처한 문제들에 대해서는 자신에게 보편적인 인간의 죄가 있다고 생각했습니다. 작품 속 요제프 K는 결국 자기 자신인 셈입니다. <<심판>>은 현대인의 불안과 방황을 잘 표현한 작품으로 <<변신>>, <<성>>과 더불어 카프카의 3대 걸작으로 손꼽힙니다. 카프카의 다른 작품들과 마찬가지로 미완의 작품입니다.

The care and conscience with which the work had been performed were so apparent, that I now state with reluctance what then seemed to me to be its only deficiencies,--a lack of lyrical fire and fluency of the original in some passages, and an occasional lowering of the tone through the use of words which are literal, but not equivalent.
