He was slim but firmly built, his clothes were black and close-fitting, with many folds and pockets, buckles and buttons and a belt, all of which gave the impression of being very practical but without making it very clear what they were actually for.

저자 소개

프란츠 카프카(독일어:Franz Kafka, 1883년 7월 3일 ~ 1924년 6월 3일)는 오스트리아•헝가리 제국의 유대계 소설가입니다. 현재 체코의 수도인 프라하(당시 오스트리아•헝가리 제국의 영토)에서 유대인 부모의 장남으로 태어나 독일어를 쓰는 프라하 유대인 사회 속에서 성장했습니다.1906년 법학으로 박사학위를 취득, 1907년 프라하의 보험회사에 취업했습니다. 그러나 그의 일생의 유일한 의미와 목표는 문학창작에 있었습니다. 1917년 결핵 진단을 받고 1924년 오스트리아 빈근교의 결핵요양소 키얼링(Kierling)에서 사망하였습니다.카프카는 사후 그의 모든 서류를 소각하기를 유언으로 남겼으나, 그의 친구 막스 브로트(Max Brod)가 카프카의 유작, 일기, 편지 등을 출판하여 현대 문학사에 카프카의 이름을 남겼습니다.
