보바리 부인은 귀스타브 플로베르의 장편소설입니다.엠마는 부유한 농가의 딸로 미모의 여성입니다. 의사 샤를 보바리와 결혼을 하지만 곧 환멸을 느끼고 바람둥이 루돌프는 그녀에게 접근하여 정복해 버립니다. 그러나 그녀가 루돌프에 빠져들자 그는 관계를 정리합니다. 엠마는 절망하였으나 이어 젊은 서기 레옹을 사랑하여 밀회를 거듭하고, 남편 몰래 짊어진 부채 때문에 스스로 목숨을 끊습니다. 이른바 ‘파멸소설‘의 전형으로 일컬어지며, 발표 당시 미풍양속을 저해한다고 하여 재판에 회부되는 등 큰 반향을 불러일으켰던 문제작입니다.
