■ 작품 소개

카사노바(1725~98년)는 바람둥이의 대명사로 알려져 있습니다. 그의 화려한 여성편력은 젊은 시절의 무용담을 그린 열두 권의 회고록을 통해 알려졌는데, 이는 생애의 마지막 13년을 보낸 보헤미아의 둑스성에서 집필한 것입니다. 유럽 전역을 여행했던 그는성직자, 비서, 바이올린 연주자, 병사, 도서관 사서, 번역가, 스파이, 철학자,도박꾼, 복권의 창안자, 연금술사였으며 도처에서 염문을 뿌리고 연애를 했습니다. 지적인 프랑스 여성 앙리에트와 동거를 하였고 수녀와도 사랑을 나눴으며로마 여성 루크레치아와는 딸 하나를 두었고 이후에 그 딸도 역시 애인이 되었습니다. 이 책은 그의 비범한 관찰력에 힘입어 18세기 유럽의 사회•풍속의 흥미 있는 기록이 되었습니다.
