24 I will bring the most wicked of nations to take possession of their houses. I will put an end to the pride of the mighty, and their sanctuaries will be desecrated. 25 When terror comes, they will seek peace in vain. - P137
26Calamity upon calamity will come, and rumor upon rumor. They will go searching for a vision from the prophet, priestly instruction in the law will cease, the counsel of the elders will come to an end.
27The king will mourn, the prince will be clothed with despair, and the hands of the people of the land will tremble. I will deal with them according to their conduct, and by their own standards I will judge them. "‘Then they will know that I am the Lord.’"

Ezekiel describes a real-life horror story in these verses. Paralyzed by terror, the people will be unable to resist the coming judgment of the Babylonians. Due to extreme fear and loss of bladder control, the people will be coveredin urine and shame. The wealth on which they once relied will becomeworthless, unable to save them from the coming calamity. - P138
Scripture oftendescribes judgment as coming suddenly upon a heedless people. Had theIsraelites listened to the warnings of the prophets, judgment might havebeen averted. However, they allowed their prosperity to lull them into afalse sense of security and they continued in their idolatry. - P138
It is easy to livein our status quo as if it was all there is and all that will ever be. However, God calls us to live in the light of eternity. When speaking of His return, Christ warns us, "Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that timewill come" (Mark 13:33). - P138
