다윗은 도피 생활과 정치적 망명과 숱한 전쟁과 권력 다툼 속에서도 그의 유일한 인생 목적을 흔들림 없이 붙들었다. 사울의끈질긴 위협과 적대감에도, 블레셋과의 반복적인 전쟁에도 독기만 남거나 영혼이 피폐해지지 않았다. 과거의 업적과 공로를 우려먹으며 명성에 집착하지도 않았다. 무엇보다 그는 왕좌에 올라서도 사치와 쾌락의 삶을 탐닉하지 않았다.
끝까지 하나님의 설계도에 충실했기에 자기 삶을 안전하게 세워갈 수 있었다. 비록 이 안전이 위험과 전쟁을 담보로 할지라도그는 굴하지 않았다. - P229

당시 그에게는 필적할 만한 적이 없었다. 10절에 "다윗이 점점강성하여 가니라"라는 구절은 히브리어로 ‘할로크 브가돌‘이라고기록된다. 이를 직역하면 ‘더 큰 걸음 더 넓은 포용으로 전진해갔다‘라는 의미다. 이처럼 다윗의 강성함은 단순히 연이은 성공사례의 축적을 말하는 게 아니라 그의 성장과 성숙을 담고 있었다. 그가 ‘더욱더 다윗다워졌다‘라는 뜻이다. ‘더욱더 다윗다워지다‘라는 말이 얼마나 좋은 말인가. - P228

우리삶에처음부터 가져다 놓을 필요가 없다. 기울어질 것들은 애초에 세울 필요가 없다. 그렇게 인생을 쌓아 올려야 어떤 흔들림과 자극에도 쓰러지지 않고, 수만 개의 돌의 하중도 견딜 수 있다. 존재하는 한거스를 수 없는 중력마저도 설득할 수 있다.

인생에서 결국 쓰러지고 기울어질 것은 무엇인가? 하나님의 설계와 목적에 합당하지 않은 것들이다. 그것들로 인생의 집을 짓겠는가? 자기 의, 자기 확신, 안목의 정욕, 이생의 자랑, 시시각각변하는 감정과 기분 같은 것들은 언젠가 무너지고 사라진다. 설계에 고려해서는 안 될 요소다.
인생은 오직 하나님의 뜻에 합당하게 설계해야 한다. 그분의목적과 방법 위에 삶을 올려놓는 거다. 그럴 때 ‘할로크 브가돌,
더 큰 걸음과 너른 품으로 전진할 수 있다. 발에 아무리 땀이 나게 뛰어도 큰 걸음을 이길 수는 없다. - P231

다윗은 자신에게 허락된 성공과 번영을 은혜 안에서 해석했다.
하나님의 은혜의 역사가 이어지는 선순환은 바로 이 중심에서부터 나온다.

Gamaliel‘s words in verse 39 have proven true: God‘s kingdomcannot be stopped.  - P152

When we obey God despite suffering, nothing canprevent His kingdom from advancing. As Jesus promised, "I will buildmy church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it" (Matt. 16:18). - P152

In the midst of the flourishing Early Church, we come across a soberingstory. As others such as Barnabas show great generosity by selling theirproperty to give to others in need, Ananias and Sapphira decide to keepsome of the money for themselves while maintaining an appearance ofselfless giving.  - P146

Their deadly sin, which Peter exposes, is lying: by theirpublic act in the temple, the married couple pretend that they are givingthe full sum away.  - P146

God punishes them because such a lack of integritywill be poison to this growing community. There are countless reasonswe might be tempted to lie, such as desiring recognition, hiding ourflaws, and protecting ourselves from shame.  - P146

May this story exhort us tosteer clear of deceit and instead live with integrity. - P146
